Distributorless Ignitions: For Late model engines with distributorless ignition systems (DIS), we offer a variety of DIS Ignition's from street to racing units.

Why DIS? The new MSD CPC Ignition System is fully electronic and does not require a distributor to trigger or distribute the spark generated by the ignition. By not using a distributor, you bypass any mechanical abnormalities that can occur within an engine through the timing chain, cam walk, gear mesh and flexing. This means total ignition accuracy at any rpm!

PROGRAM
Program these features from a PC with MSD’s Pro-Data+ software or with the Hand Held Monitor, PN 7550.

Run Timing Curve - Set an electronic “centrifugal advance” with more control.
Vacuum Advance - For street cars you can program an advance in relation to engine manifold vacuum.
Individual Cylinder Timing - Maximize the performance of each cylinder to compensate for differing dynamics in airflow and other variances.
Launch Timing Curve - Program a separate timing curve exclusively for the launch!
Boost Timing Curve - For turbo or superchargered applications an optional MAP sensor can be installed so you can control the ignition timing in relation to boost pressure.
Multi-Step Retard - Three separate stages of retard can be activated by either rpm or a separate activation wire.
Gear RPM and Retards - Program a different rpm shift point for each gear as well as a retard for every gear change.
Three Rev Limits - Set three different rev limits for the burnout, the holeshot and top end overrev protection in 100 rpm increments.

MSD is excited to push performance ignition technology right out of the envelope with the new Digital CPC Ignition System! This distributorless ignition system delivers MSD’s powerful CD sparks while giving racers complete programming control over the timing and rpm functions creating an ignition system like no other!

The Digital CPC System consists of a system controller, ignition control and eight coils. An MSD Flying Magnet Crank Trigger is responsible for triggering the ignition and a special distributor plug delivers a cam sync signal so the controller knows when the number one cylinder is under compression and can start the firing order sequence of the engine. (This plug is also responsible for spinning the oil pump.) When triggered, the capacitive discharge ignition will deliver a powerful spark with 170 mJ of energy and 475 primary volts to each coil at any rpm! Below 3,300 each spark plug will be fired multiple times, for 20° of crankshaft rotation, ensuring complete combustion for a smooth idle and great throttle response.

The heart of the Digital CPC System is an incredibly fast 40MHz microcontroller! This state-of-the-art RISC controller is capable of ten million instructions per second so the ignition timing and rpm limits are exact! The controller and ignition are designed with absolute noise immunity with optical isolation meaning that they have no physical connection except the battery source. MSD also incorporates efficient optically integrated circuit drivers to diminish any Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) on the power side of the ignition. Insulated Gate Bi-Polar Transistors (IGBT) are used with each coil to provide incredible On/Off switching time of each of the eight channels. Due to the efficient components selected, the MSD CPC system operates on only 1 amp per 1000 rpm current supply and can run on a supply voltage down to 8 volts.
