20 amp mag and 8973

hi guy,s i am having a few dramas timing my blown sbc
i run the above control box and mag (front drive)
my 8106 box is close to the mag on the engine plate all grounded as per instructions
my 8973 is on the chassis rail in front of the engine plate
retards are not activated ( dark brown, tan ,pink ) are looped and shielded
away from any power source
start retard is at zero along with all the other retards
i set the timing at 34 degrees spininning the motor over with the mag on but no fuel in the injection
once i start the engine it drops back to 24 to 26 degree's and stays there
it doesnt change through the rev range???????
is the 8973 to close to the 20 amp mag , is it picking up interference somehow
any help would be great

Are you running a crank trigger?

My first suggestion is to bypass the timing box by plugging the mag into "itself." This will bypass the 8973 and the crank trigger if your running one. Check the timing and see if it's still reading 24*. If it is, it sounds like the mag is slipping in the drive. Are you using a v band clamp?

Also check the MAG comp on the 8973 and set it at 0.
