This is our most popular performance distributor! The housing is machined from a billet of 6061-T6 aluminum on a state-of-the-art CNC machine producing exact tolerances. For high rpm stability, a .500” steel shaft is supported by a sealed ball bearing and a long sintered bushing. This shaft also receives a QPQ coating for friction reduction and resistance to corrosion. A precision machined reluctor is attached to the shaft which triggers the magnetic pick-up mounted in the housing. This high output magnetic pick-up is the most accurate way to trigger your ignition. Plus, with no moving parts to wear or adjust, the pick-up is maintenancefree! Just above the pick-up is MSD’s adjustable mechanical advance assembly. Different springs and stop bushings are supplied so you can tune an advance curve to match your application.

We will never use any product other than MSD in our 900 hp small block chevy racing engines. Our experiance has shown that those with problems with their MSD products, 9 times out of 10 have not installed the ignition correctly, or are to quick to blame the ignition system.

I purchased a chevelle ss with a 350 small block and it has this distributor. About 1,000 miles into owner ship one of the lifters came apart and I ended up rebuilding the motor. I primed the motor with a shaft and collar on loan from Auto Zone. It was getting oil to each side of the rocker arms. At about 700 miles it started idling real rough and had no low end. Once it was up to speed it ran OK. I was able to make it home (125 miles) and I pulled the driver side valve cover. One of the rocker studs had snapped in half and upon close inspection I noticed that none of the rockers had any oil on them and one lifter had turned a grayish blue, like it got hot. I started the car and sure enough no oil through the pushrods. The passenger side was soaked with oil. What I found was this distributor does not have the extra knob on the shaft that blocks oil passages and forces the oil to be routed to the lifters in a small block. My guess is that this distributor is for a big block but you list it as for a chevy V-8 a
