| SOLD! That's right - our '55 Chevy has been sold! |
MSD
wanted to do a project car that would reach all sorts of different
hot rodding tastes, and even people that may not be car enthusiasts.
What better way than to start with one of the most popular cars of
all time - a 1955 Chevy!
From a distance, our '55 might appear to be a stock shoebox with its
clean, factory lines covered in an original two-tone Omaha Orange and
Ivory. But as you get closer, you notice the huge meats out back, the
roll cage and when we fire it up you know there's a lot more under the
hood than the original 265. In fact, there's almost twice as much cubic
inches thanks to a fuel injected 502!
The big block is a Scoggin-Dickey prepped 502/502 that is topped with
a custom dual-quad Hogan intake fit with our Pro-Billet Throttle Bodies.
The fuel supply is custom plumbed with MSD Competition Fuel injectors
and is fired by our Coil-Per-Cylinder Programmable Ignition system. All
of this power is transferred through a Hughes prepped GM Powertrail 4L-80
trans and a 9-Inch DTS rear end to a huge set of 15x18-50 Hoosier boots.
All of the paint and body work, wiring,
and body assembly was performed by Street Rods USA, in El Paso, Texas.
Custom interior by Franks Custom, El Paso, Texas features a Glide Engineering
seat, Vintage Air Sure-Fit air conditioning (we live in the desert remember),
Auto Meter gauges, Billet Specialties steering wheel on an Ididit column,
Painless Performance Harness, and a custom B&M shifter. Danchuk and
Classic Chevy International helped with a lot of the trim and stainless.
The maiden voyage for the '55 was on the 2004 Hot Rod Power Tour and
the car performed as good as it looks! The car racked up the miles and
garnered just as many smiles and thumbs up. Watch for the '55 at a variety
of shows and events throughout the year and we'll see you on the Tour
in Milwaukee.
MSD would also like thank our own Bobby
Woleslagle, Rick Bennett and Charlie Green for all their work to get
the '55 dialed-in.
Body
1955 Chevrolet 210 covered in the original Ivory over Omaha Orange, applied
by Street Rods USA in El Paso, TX. Chrome and trim from Danchuk and Classic
Chevy keep the original body lines and appearance. Wiring is handled by
Painless Performance throughout.
Drivetrain
502/502 Big Block massaged by Scoggin-Dickey and topped with a custom
Hogan dual quad sheet metal EFI intake manifold. Custom EFI fuel system
with MSD Throttle Bodies, Competition Fuel Injectors and hardware. An
MSD Programmable CPC Ignition system fires the fuel and a Griffin radiator
keeps everything cool. The transmission is a GM 4L80E, modified by Stoney
Automotive Engineering. Power is transmitted to a Ford 9-inch equipped
with a DTS prepped posi, gears and Strange Axles. Wheels are 15x13 and
15x6 Billet Specialties wrapped in Hoosier 18.50’s and 7.50’s radials.
Interior
Bright red interior features a Glide engineering seat wrapped in red and
white. A full cluster of Auto Meter gauges keeps tabs on the engine's vitals
and an Ididit tilt column is crowned with a steering wheel from Carriage
Works. Specialty Power Windows makes things easy while Custom Auto
Sound produces the tunes and a Vintage Air system keeps things cool.
